Making a 'Box Cottage' with Story

Put a Crafty Mama and Kid in Quarantine, and things happen!

When my eldest (Madi will be 18 next week yall!!! :( ) was only about a year old, I was not able to provide a Christmas gift for her…. She used to love to hide, in cabinets, under her bed, playing with her stuffed dolls…. So that year I made her a crazy cool box fort- it was awesome, well for my 19 year old self who didnt know I had any craftiness- I added curtains and colored it with her crayons, but it was the best gift reaction, still to this day I think, I have ever given her…. <3

I had this idea a few days ago i wanted to do the same for Tea & Story before they became to old… I have their teepee I made years ago we put up every spring, but this would be different ;)

Last week I was contact traced while teaching at the school, then Story was sent home Friday after a classmate popped positive, so here we are! I had this idea of making a Cottage for the girls to play in this Winter, and today the timing was just perfect! Since we cant leave for 10 days, we sourced up some materials and got to work….

This is Easy Peezy! 1st, track down some boxes… Perk of living on a Military base, people are ALWAYS moving- so this whole house was made from 3 boxes…

Then design- Cut out windows, make doors- re-enforce it all with duct tape and extra box pieces-

Paint with literally anything you have laying around- I added water to chalkboard paint, scavenging the bottom of the jars in the back of our storage closet- Then used a chalk marker to decorate a little- (cant leave the house, so no craft stores!)

Make shingles, add a planter box, let your imagination go!

Twinkle lights- Man if those dont just make everything look better! hahaha

Story did most of the tracing, helped with measuring, a ton of the painting and outlined all the shingles with a fat sharpie marker… Letting kids do as much as they can in projects does sooooo much for their confidence! She is super proud of this ‘Mama and Me’ making, and surprising Tea when she walked in from school was just awesome….

Oh and I made that tutu and wings Story is wearing, and the dress Tea is rocking ;) My Heart is so full.

Kids are only kids for such a short while, I Love that we spend time doing things like this together….- Till next time luvs- xoxo
