Our Escape- Etna Nord.
Last weekend we headed to the North Side of the Mountain…. We have hiked a bit over here, but never from Linguaglossa- A spot on my radar for a while now, even more so as we have been planning a Sunset Summit Hike that for different reasons, keeps getting postponed—- We will make it someday ;)
To say we needed this hike, the two of us, alone, in the quiet atmosphere of another Planet, is an understatement. Life lately has taken on a new beat, different from the past year in some ways, just, if not more, challenging- Like the terrain here on this Volcano Top, its been rocky- rough- sprinkled with bits of beauty.
We find ourselves constantly looking at calendars, notching off the months, weeks, days to February- When we can choose orders (fingers crossed) to get out of here and back stateside. 16 months, we have 16 months left here in Sicily. Its a really hard thing to live somewhere you just dont like, and know you cant leave- Even though my Blog Photos and such may show the good and positive moments, the pretty parts, most of it just isnt… and Im not going to start venting out all I dislike about the current place we are stationed, as it doesn’t me or anyone reading this any good- We will just keep looking forward, planning for a future of a piece of land to call our own, a place we can really feel HOME. No longer Nomads.
Etna almost always provides us some solace- a release from the chaos down in the valley, fresh air, trees, silence… We can escape from the work, the people, the trash, the noise. I always say this, but I am so damn thankful she is right here, just a short hour drive from our house, as I wouldnt be able to hack this Duty Station without her. (Please Sicilians, stop trashing your Mountain- Its getting worse every drive up lately—-)
Its like visiting another world. Volcano Hiking…….
Stay happy and sane everyone… Till next time- xoxo
