Date in the Woods.....
Ok, Ima cheap date.
Today I felt the pullllllllll…. It has been months since I have had a break from the children (aside from errands… booooooooo) and this mama needed a minute. A Date. A quiet moment with just Dear Husband to connect and disconnect.
We are limited still with Covid restrictions of where we are allowed to go, and although Sasebo has completely opened back up to its citizens, our base has different regulations still in place… so Nature is closed, aside from a few parks and a mountain. But Ill take it. When Mt Eboshi was listed as a place we were allowed, we took the kids the first day—- a short hike, legs stretched, clean Mountain air… While we were up there I scoped out a few other trails, so today, just us adults, went and got lost….
This is my idea of a PERFECT outing for the two of us. Tall trees, overgrown trails, thistle and nettle and wild raspberry…. The smells of jasmine and honeysuckle and earth. The quiet escape of the artificial world (although we still heard occasional cars on the nearby roads) Just the song of the birds overheard, and our own conversation over the crunch of our feet. We didnt realize when we started but we found about 2.5 hrs worth of trail to hike through… Not our favorite hike here in japan by far, but it did the job today!
Returning home, the kids continued to keep themselves entertained while we ate vegan nachos and watched a documentary of the “Hayduke Trail”, dreaming up more and more bucket list adventures, talking more of camping trips and hikes to come. All in all, a perty great Date.
I find myself so so thankful every time I step into Nature, especially these last few years here in Japan.. It has introduced/welcomed me to an inner love and connection I dont think I may have found otherwise… This country has changed me, transformed me. Something I will carry with me through the rest of my life… Kudos Japan, Major Fist Bump.
Till next time… -xoxo
