Handmade Pea Coats for my Bird & Story

I mean, these two…. Look how big they are! I feel like its a blink and childhood is zooming by…….

A project Iv had on my mind since last Winter has finally been completed! Hand-made Pea Coats…. I know, I can just shop online and find these Ready-to-Wear, yet I rose to the challenge of designing and stitching them, and saving mucho money on the cost of Retail! Twig and Tale has become one of my favorite sites to find patterns… Her garments are so incredibly versatile and each download//print offers so many customizable options!!

For both of these coats I opted for a cotton corduroy, charcoal for Bird and dusty rose for Story- I also decided on an organic cotton print that mirrored their personalities, and added a batting filler for warmth and extra coziness! All the materials I used were found by the yard on Etsy- Its my favorite place to shop for all the materials I use in sewing an textile ;)I added a touch of embroidery, some wooden buttons and Bunny ears for Miss Story-

This pattern was so easy to make up friends, with a very simple Singer sewing machine too- Nothing fancy at all!

I went one size up so they cant get a few years wear out of them… I hope this inspires you to get out that sewing machine and take a crack at some garments! I used to be so intimidated, but having a good pattern makes ALL the difference…

Till next time, xoxo
