Takachiho Gorge….

This has been on the radar for a long time… Each time we tried to go over the last two years, the weather hasnt cooperated, or well, the ships schedule hasnt! But this past Fall we made it happen… We planned out a day trip to hit up this amazing Gorge in Takachiho, followed by a drive up to Mt Aso!

‘Takachiho Gorge (高千穂峡, Takachiho-kyō) is a narrow chasm cut through the rock by the Gokase River. The nearly sheer cliffs lining the gorge are made of slow forming volcanic basalt columns which resemble the scales of a dragon where the stone twisted and flowed as it formed.’-Takachiho Travel…. Its amazing ya’ll!

We couldnt have asked for a more gorgeous day… we arrived early in the morning, leaving the house around 6 am, and although being there just before opening, we had a crowd… I totally recommend getting there early!!! The boat rentals fill up super fast, and can be closed without warning even before lunch…

Paddling through the Gorge was harder then I thought…. Madi, Story and I were in one boat, Rye, Tea and Dad in another… Poor Madison—- I was laughing so hard trying NOT to bump into other boats and navigate through the narrow river, without much luck, that she actually took over! It was so beautiful though…. from the waterfall to the cliffs to the clear clean water, the ducks and our Host Nation locals cracking up as well and taking photos of us, we were all in this together!

After the 30 min boat excursion, we hiked around the area, enjoying the morning sun and all the natural splendor this area had to offer!!

On our way out to Mt Aso, we stopped by this gem we found on the side of the road!! Its, what im guessing, an old tree house amusement! Most of it was blocked off, but it was wicked cool to walk around an explore… All I can say is it is somewhere between the Gorge and the Mountain… ;)

If your here in Kyushu, this is a must see place!

Up next, Mt Aso…. -xoxo
