Farewell our Old Man.

Today marks 2 weeks without him. I probably shouldnt even be attempting a Blog Post as I’m still catching breath, but here I go anyhow….. I’ll keep it short-

This guy was so much more than a Dog to me. I know, to all of us. I didnt see it coming 12 years ago when we adopted this little Japanese Ball of Downy Fur, but he became my partner, my companion, a chunk of my Soul completely connected.

From the time he was young, I’ve trained him to be the “Family Dog”… Honestly not really knowing much about dogs, as I had never had one growing up, but feeling like he could round out the Fam, teach the kiddos extra levels of responsibility, give us some laughs and comfort—- He did all of that. He molded us from Family to PACK. For me, he became something else.

Very early on, Harvey shadowed me, my every step- I moved, he moved. Our energies entwined. He was a confidant when I needed to talk, a familiar feel when I needed comfort, a blanket of security to get me through the hard times (especially deployments)… He never judged, only loved. He never turned his back on me, only held up a paw. He never left my side.

My Brother Bear gave me 12 amazing years- We all traveled the world together—- Hikes and Car Rides and Beach Days…. Dancing in the kitchen, playing chase or hide-and-seek, countless hours of walks at sunrise and sunset. Couch snuggles and bed snuggles and on my lap while I try to drive snuggles… Always smiling, always up for anything I need, always there.

I dont know how to do life right now without him. I’m surrendering to this change, but its harder than I ever imagined.

I collected some of our memories from the years into this little slideshow- He was a music buff (yes, I could tell!) and loved jamming out with us all—- especially windows down on a nice long drive.

These were a few of his faves: 1st, HIS Song- We have been singing to him “Charlie Boy” by the Lumineers since he came home to us in Yokosuka….. I will never hear this song without seeing his beautiful face. “Sun to me” by Zach Bryan. And of course “Sword in the Stone” by The Passenger.

They say a Golden Retriever will change you…. that the Love they are capable of is un-comparable --- People were right.

I love you Brother Bear, we all do forever and ever- Its been a ride Earth-Side Dear Friend. >>> Till we meet again., you are strong in our hearts.- To the Moon. -xoxo
