Visit to Yokosuka..... My golly we miss it

Car. Bus. Plane. Train. Walk….

This was our weekend…. On Friday we made a spontaneous decision to head up to Yokosuka to see Husband! He called and said he didnt have to be back at work till Monday, so we jumped on it and grabbed tickets before we could even think about the dent in our wallet or the amount of travel for only a short 37 hrs together…. Because ANY time we get with him these days, well its worth everything <3

Yokosuka was our home for 3 amazing years… It was our introduction to Japan, to overseas living, and opened our eyes and changed our lives forever… I never saw that coming! But its a place I feel more home in then most, and have more gratitude for then anywhere Iv lived… So you can only imagine my excitement!! And the KIDS! Oh My Gunnessssss…… yes, there were moments of exhaustion, like the hour and 40 mins on a CRAMMED IN LIKE SARDINES train ride to Tokyo, or walking all over Kamakura during a Major Wedding Ceremony held at Hachimangu Shrine, in the heat, but MAN, it was awesome…..

We arrived in Yoko around 5 on Saturday, to find that just outside Chuo Station, Blue Street had filled up with food tents and games and massive amounts of people, celebrating the Military…. Appropriate enough for Memorial Day weekend! Things were just as we remembered…. Walking down towards the base we ran into the owner of Nawlins, who we used to visit bi-weekly when we lived in the area last, and who was great to see, and we pointed out this and that and the other with smiles crossing our faces and light in our hearts! We grabbed food at our favorite Indian Spot and planned out what would be our only day together before having to say farewell again….

Sunday, Kamakura, Great Buddha, and Zushi Beach were on the schedule! There were so so so many things we wanted to do, but keeping it close and simple seemed like a better idea with already tired littles… We got our Zen on with Buddha before we found Vegan Eats at a trendy Burrito Stand by the Huge Tori Gate, where we grossed out our kids by being lovey (gotta get what I can get!!!) and walked through the shopping streets that were even more crowded then my memory recollected! We visited a Barista serving slow drip artisan coffee out of a super cool Van Stand, and devoured strawberries on the street just outside of the produce stand… Getting out to the beach that afternoon was more then welcome… We took off our shoes and ran to the water. The beach was wicked packed with military and locals alike, celebrating the weekend, music and windsurfing and food and kids splashing in the waves… This part I remembered perfectly ;) Andrew and I watched the kids, picturing Tea at the same age story is now, running along this same coastline… So strange.

Cantina is across the street from the ocean, and is our favorite Brick Oven Pizza Spot I think we have ever been too…. Its been remodeled, but the staff was just as nice and accommodating as ever! They went above and beyond serving us Veggie Pizza (not on the menu) which was delicious, while we watched the sun start to set… We walked back along streets we know so well, and took a train past Ikego, where we called our home…. Nostalgia hit hard, like a blanket cloaking us all in that moment… One day just wasnt enough…. But we made it as perfect as it could be…

The day after we returned home, Andrew was back at work, where he met President Trump who visited his Ship, the WASP… Trump said it was his honor to have met Andrew, so that was pretty cool ;) But now he is back out, sailing the seas….

Im so thankful for this memory, so grateful for a husband who does what he does…. xoxo
