Story Homeschool Wrap Up... 3rd Grade

Our Story Bean….

She will always be our Baby, #4 of the Kid Crew, but what a little Lady she is growing into.

Her 3rd Year of school was amazing for me to watch—- Her love of reading- blooming, deepening, stretching to new heights. She devours Books, just like her Sister- You won’t find her without one in tow! She had so many accomplishments this year—- so just like with Birdy’s Post, let’s get down to it!

I guess I’ll break down the subjects, again, I can’t really synopsize ALL we did into a mere Blog Post…. Our Story is still in the ‘Brain Sponge’ age where she is absorbing all around her in every moment- She is so smart its blowing us away…. how did we get so lucky with all of these kiddos??

English: This year we took on a more eclectic approach. Story loves to write- She has completed a few short fiction novels now, mostly based off of her Love of the ‘Warrior Cat’ Series, as well as some short stories, book reports and reviews, and some poetry…. She is becoming a quick typer and enjoys creating digital reports and book covers! We continue to use Brave Writer, as we still just love everything from the Literature Singles and Book Selections… this year Story also created her own Vocab Worksheets (an upgrade from mine over the last 2 years for her:)) so as she is reading her many novels she has going on, she can jot down words she doesn’t know and look them up later. She also continues to improve her cursive writing… I love being witness first hand to both of these girls extreme love for reading and creative writing!

Her favorite Book Recommendations:

‘Harry Potter” Books 3-5- J.K. Rowling, “Impossible Creatures” Katherine Rundell, “Once There Was” Kiyash Monsef (Her highest recommendation!), “Echo Mountain” Loren Wolk, “Greenwild” Books 1-2 Pari Thomson, “Pages and Co.” 1-2 by Anna James

She also read soooooo many “Warrior Cats” Books by Erin Hunter (Super Editions & Novels) They’re her favorite!

Math: This year we continued with Singapore 3 A & B. We also use Khan Academy for extra Practice >>> Also, a side note—- both of these girls have had so many lessons in finance this year- From the sale of our House, to budgeting Groceries (And shopping on their own!) to even financial College Planning with older Sister…. They may not completely understand it all, but its a big discussion in our Home. Especially in this Economy!)

History: Story really likes this subject, so with her love for reading, we took a literal approach! She Read “Story of the World”, multiple Folk and Mythology Stories, and Timelines through History… We used Blossom and Root “River of Voices” (and are still working through it) as well as studying the States, memorizing capitals, and exploring National Parks. She also sat in on all readings of 8th Grade Oak Meadow this year, chiming in on discussion topics and even joining in on some assignments!

Science: We continued Nature Studies through the Seasons… Completed a Course through Wild & Free “The Young Naturalist” and unit studies through Harbor and Sprout like “Forestry”… Story continued to research Animals, their life cycle, environment, habitat, etc. She completed her 1st Nature Journal!

Our Bean continued Duolingo Italian and has improved very much! She loves hanging in the kitchen and cooking new recipes with me, and really likes sewing (especially with my Juki!)

A HUGE accomplishment this year was her growth in Gymnastics—- Story was the Runner Up for the All Around in Mississippi for Level 1! She rocked out, working hard, and took Home so much Gold and Silver this year… She has since moved up to Level 2, and is putting those hours in to excel in Competitions again this Season!

So Proud of you Kiddo!!!

There was so much more between the lines, the moments that filled our day- New friendships, Co-ops, hang outs and family time… Trips to Georgia or Camping in the Autumn and Spring… Hiking and Beach days, just hanging at Home with the pets… Being with her, with both of them, all day everyday is so amazing…. I never tire of it- These kids are my best pals, its just such a cool way to raise them…

Here’s to officially 4th Grade babe! Let’s Rock it! -xoxo
